Refer to the Sol System for an idea of the shear number and variety of objects in a star system.
Introduction & Maps
This is a guide to the locations mentioned in the various Macross productions and some of them from the various RPG games set in the Macross universe. Noteworthy stellar objects have also been included. For a more complete understanding of stellar objects, the reader is advised to explore the following: Milky Way Arms and mapping, The Milky Way, List of stars, List of brightest stars, List of heaviest stars, List of largest stars, Black hole, Intermediate-mass black hole, and Supermassive black hole.
Maps
The following articles are extrapolations on canon Macross information and RPGing, and are provided to illustrate the current and potential future of humankind in the Macross universe. They may need to be updated to correlate with the latest information available:
The most understood, explored, colonized and best defended sector of the Unified Government. It is considered the 'home turf' of humanity and any unauthorized defolds into the sector are generally met with lethal force. The sector is ball-shaped, with a radius of 100 light years based on Sol/Earth, at the center. It was colonized entirely by Short-Range Emigration Fleets.

Noteable locations: Nede
Is a sector that has seen limited exploration and colony development due to a large black hole - a fold navigation hazard - in the area closest to Sol/Earth. Recently, the colonists in the area have started making extreme overt moves against the UN.
Noteable locations: Rock 387, Pregas 2 (Iota), BCTC, Dorta, Whade, the Bell Cluster

is a minor spiral arm of the galaxy, some 3,500 light years across and approximately 10,000 light years in length. The solar system and Earth are located close to the inner rim in the Local Bubble, about half-way along the Arm's length, approximately 26,000 light-years from the galactic center.
434 light years; Polaris
- is a multiple star.
- Alpha UMi A
- 6 solar masses.
- an F7 bright giant (II) or supergiant (Ib).
- Alpha UMi B
- 1.5 solar masses.
- an F3V main sequence star
- orbits at 2,400 AU
- Alpha UMi Ab
- 1.5 solar masses.
- dwarf star
- orbits at 18.5 AU.
- Alpha UMi C
- Alpha UMi D
- is the second brightest star in the constellation Orion and the tenth brightest star in the nighttime sky.
- is a red supergiant star, one of the physically largest stars known. If it was placed at the center of our Solar System, the Earth would be engulfed and would be inside it.
- Its proximity to Earth, combined with its enormous size, make it the star with the third largest angular diameter as viewed from Earth.
- Is one of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth - 650 light-years from Sol.
- Is a planetary nebula created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star. The outer gases of the star expelled into space appear from our vantage point as if we are looking down a helix. The remnant central stellar core, destined to become a white dwarf star, glows in light so energetic that it causes the previously expelled gas to fluoresce.
1,550 light years; Deneb
- is the brightest star in the constellation Cygnus and one of the brightest stars in the night sky, with apparent magnitude 1.25.
- about 1,600 to 3,200 light years from Sol.
- It appears to have a diameter about 200 to 300 times that of the Sun; if placed at the center of our Solar System, Deneb would extend to the orbit of the Earth. It is one of the largest stars known.
- Deneb IV - habitable planet orbiting the star.
- 5,000 light-years away from Sol.
- The nebula is at 1º kelvin - the coldest place known outside a laboratory.
- The Boomerang Nebula is formed from the outflow of gas from a star at its core. The gas is moving outwards at a speed of about 600,000 km/h and expanding rapidly as it moves out into space. This expansion is the cause of the nebula's very low temperature. It is believed that the nebula is a star or stellar system evolving toward the planetary nebula phase.
- From Earth, appears about the same size as the Moon in the sky which, given its distance, yield a spatial dimension of some 75 light years across.
- is a rather loosely concentrated cluster of stars that measures 75 light years across.
- At least 43 variable stars have been observed within M4.
- a very large (100-150 times as much mass as the Sun) and bright (about four million times that of the Sun) luminous blue variable (LBV) star located about 7,500 light-years from Earth.
- The star is surrounded by a large, bright nebula, known as the Eta Carinae Nebula, the Keyhole Nebula, or NGC 3372.
- As of July 2005, Eta Car is the 5th most luminous star yet discovered, and still the most massive.
- Mylene Flare Jenius, the 7th child of Maximilian and Milia Fallyna Jenius, born onboard the space carrier Red Moon in flight near the Nebula, 2031.02.02.
- a planetary nebula of unknown size and distance from Sol.
- a complex system composed of three nested pairs of bipolar lobes and an equatorial ellipse. Its lobes all share the same axis of symmetry but each have very different morphologies and opening angles. It is an unusual PN in that it is believed, by some researchers, to contain a symbiotic binary at its center.
The distance between the local arm and the Perseus Arm is about 6,500 light-years.
G-PN 88
The Digital Mission Macross VF-X story takes place here.
Noteable locations: Elysium
- PSR B1620-26 is a neutron star pulsar.
- PSR B1620-26b is a white dwarf companion to the pulsar primary, it has a mass of 0.34 solar mass. These stars orbit each other at a distance of 1 AU about once every half year.
- PSR B1620-26c Methuselah
- is a planet orbitting the primary and secondary in a circumbinary orbit. This makes the system the only triple system radio pulsar, and the only triple system in a globular cluster known thus far.
- has a mass of 2.5 times that of Jupiter, is in an orbit similar to that of Uranus around the Sun, but slightly larger; PSR B1620-26c orbits at a distance of 23 AU (3.4 Tm). Each orbit of the planet takes about 100 years.
- it is likely that PSR B1620-26c is also about 12.7 billion years old. This is much older than any other known planet, and nearly three times as old as Earth.
- The triple system is just outside the core of the globular cluster. The age of the cluster has been estimated to be about 12.7 billion years. Hence this is the age estimate for the birth of the planet, and two stars.
A minor spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy extending from and around the central hub region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The inner portion of the Arm is called Norma Arm in narrow meaning. The outer part of it is identified either with Cygnus Arm, which lies outside the Perseus Arm, or Outer Arm, which is located further away from the center of the Galaxy than Cygnus Arm. Norma Arm has a radius of approximately 50 light years. It is named for the Norma constellation, through which the Arm as seen from Earth passes.
About 27,000 light years from Sol. It is believed that there is a supermassive black hole at the Galactic Centre.
The M7, M7D and MF stories take place here.
Noteable locations: Baroota 3198XE, Gaul 4, Rax, M55NGC6909 Planetary Cluster, Vajra Homeworld, Zola

25,000 light years from Sol: Pistol Star
- is 10 million times as bright as the Sun and about 100 times as massive.
- It is located approximately 25,000 light years from Earth in the direction of Sagittarius, near the center of the Milky Way.
30,000 to 49,000 light years LBV 1806-20
- Measured at over 130 times the mass of the sun (Sol) and is near the core of the Milky Way Galaxy.
