I'm in the midst of translating other articles in the Macross Chronicle magazines, but I felt this was relevant to us (M15), and easy to translate:

20x air and space use Stealth Escort Carrier (CV404 Uraga)*
45x space use Stealth Carrier (ARMD362 Maizuru)**
120x air and space use Stealth Frigate*

Ship carried aircraft (for the entire fleet):
about 1,800x Variable Fighter
about 600x Variable Attacker
about 9x Variable Bomber (in conjunction with Tech Sheet 01a, it looks like the VB-6)
about 120x Electronic Reconnaisance Fighter
about 60x cargo plane/freight transport
about 100x Liason (communication/contact) plane***


* yuppers, able to be used in an atmosphere as well as space.
** Alternatively "for use in the void of space"
*** I'm really not sure how to translate this one.  It's a combination of (to contact; to get in touch; (n) (2) contacting; getting in touch; communication; call; message; (3) connection; coordination; junction) and (machine/airplane).



Note: translated terms subject to change if and when I find the time to return to this article.  Numbers are hard and fast.

Could they mean fast courier ships? Or ships used to establish a makeshift laser communication network?

I actual tried to estimate the fleet numbers once by counting ship that destroyed on screen vs how many we saw at the end.

about a 100 + must have been destroyed off camera.

Crikey thats a lot of ships. The Macross 7 Trash books make sense now though. They are the more accurate description. The series just has lazy animators lol

Not ships.  Planes.  The kanji used is the one for airplane (not to mention that the counter is also the one used for airplanes.)

If it was just communication, then I'd assume some form of AWAC's craft. Radome equipped VF-11's for the M7 fleet. Radome equipped VF-171's for the Macross Frontier.

It's not the AWACS types.  Those are the Electronic Recon planes.
