Possible to takeoff from within the sea: a few improved airframes of the SV-51 exist for takeoff and flight from within the sea from a submarine. It is possible to do the underwater takeoff from periscope depth to 30 m below the surface; and after it is shot out of the submarine by compressed air and advances into the air by a rocket motor, it shifts to flight with a conventional turbojet engine. This airframe has been waterproofed and in addition to strengthening to resist pressure, the modifications include a folding mechanism in the wings so the SV-51 can fit in the compact takeoff dock inside the submarine.
