The Variable Bomber that inherited the design of the Destroid Monster.

Fuselage Description:
The VB-6 Köning Monster is a representative of a variable bomber developed along the specification requirement of "a Destroid Monster that flies and is able to rapidly deploy itself".  This machine, which takes over the Destroid Monster concept, and by an airframe that is endowed with a mechanism that transforms it into Shuttle, Heavy Gerwalk and Destroid modes, and equipped with a 4-barrel rail gun and 3 barrel heavy missile launcher heavy armaments, possesses an offensive power that far surpasses that of the Variable Fighters (VF) and Variable Attackers (VA).  Furthermore, the Macross Frontier Fleet stationed S.M.S. operates a fuselage changed from the original specifications; the pictures referred to [reviewed] here are all of the S.M.S. specification craft.

Operation Record
The VB-6, whose development had started in 2030, was advanced at first by a combined design team of Northram and Grumman.  Afterwards, with Shinnakasu, who were in charge of the design of the HWR-00-MkII, and obtaining the collaberation [cooperation] of Dr. Köning Tiegel who was the design chief at that time, they successfully solved the various problems with the deterioration of the fuselage strength that accompanied the installation of the variable mechanism into the craft.  In 2032, the mass production prototype had it's maiden flight and production started.  Many completed aircraft were deployed to special forces and so on, and in 2040, 3 VB-6 (1 was a spare machine for parts) were delivered to S.M.S. in the Macross Frontier Fleet.   By 2059, the VB-6 belonging to S.M.S. had had various upgrades, had participated actively on the frontlines, and in addition to combat missions, was also goin on asteroid [small planet], space dust and so on blast [explosive] removal [clearing] work [duty] and so on.

Caption: There are many cases of S.M.S. getting the VF-25 Messiah and so on to escort [guard] (the VB-6), and using the VB-6 for assault [violent attack] strikes, support, and so on.

Caption: In the "Ranka Attack", an attack on the Vajra making use of Ranka's song, the VB-6 became the craft that Ranka rode.


Armaments
The armaments of the VB-6 consisted of a 4 barrel 320 mm Rail Gun, and two 3 barrel heavy missile launchers in the arms, one anti-air anti-ground machinegun turret, and two anti-air anti-ground close-range small high-manueverability missile launchers.  The armaments are an increase compared with the model HWR-00-MkII.

Caption: 4 barrel 320 mm Railgun: with a self-guided shell, the railgun is capable of precision fire to a range of more than 100 Km; a reaction warhead (shell) could also be used.

Caption: 3 barrel Heavy Missile Launcher: though anti-ground anti-ship missiles are usually loaded, multi-warhead, reaction warhead missiles and so on can also be launched.

Caption: Anti-air anti-ground machinegun turret: When in shuttle form, it becomes semi-fixed in the nose part, and when in the other two modes, it is used for close-in protection.


Cockpit
As 3 crew are needed in the HWR-00-MkII, the VB-6 is also controlled by 3 people: a pilot and 2 bombing and bombardment officers.  However, it is possible for a single pilot to operate the VB-6 using EX-Gear, if they're a pilot who has piloting technology as high as Major Kanaria Berushutain of S.M.S..

Caption: The front seat is the main pilot seat, so when the VB-6 is operated as a single-seated craft, the rear seats are not used.

Caption: Front pilot seat: the seat has been refurbished to the type that supports the EX-Gear, which is reproduced technology from the VF-25, and enables the VB-6 to be operated as a single-seated craft.


Shuttle Mode
The shuttle form that corresponds with the fighter form of the VF, VA and so on, possesses a high flight performance from it's lifting-body structure.  Before being miniaturized, even though it had been rough going getting that giant [large build] to fly by itself, the problem had been solved by Dr. Köning's idea to also use the super-electromagnetic catapult of the rail gun as a plasma rocket.  The plasma rockets are only used for emergency landing, high acceleration and so on, and the VB-6's thrust is usually obtained from 4 thermonuclear turbine engines.

Moreover, the S.M.S. specification craft, there is an improvement in mobility by having lightening the craft by a change in the armour material, as well as a small increase in atmospheric speed.

Caption: Though it acquired the ability of high acceleration with a new mechanism, it's mobility was low for a fuselage size more than twice that of a normal [usual] VF.  

Caption: Heavy armour is applied over the entire airframe, and the VB-6 doesn't suffer damage from an anti-air machinegun grade (weapon).

Caption: When Ranka Rii boarded for the "Ranka Attack", the VB-6 was mainly in shuttle form positioned at the rear.

Caption: Shuttle Mode/Upper Surface: it's feature is that it looks like the old world's Space Shuttle, and in the nose farring are high manueverability verniers, and the arm functions as a moving wing.

Caption: Shuttle Mode/ Back: the compound electromagnetic plasma rocket engine and railgun system possesses 4 nozzles in the rear section of the fuselage, and functions as a thrust system only in shuttle form.

Heavy Gerwalk Mode
The Heavy Gerwalk form that over the HWR-00-MkII form, is the point where it is possible to use all of the armaments, and from the point that is said that it can stop firing recoil by fixing the airframe's arm parts, and from this it can demonstrate it's offensive power to the maximum.  However, because all of this craft's armaments are shells [bullets], the craft only has a number of them, it has uneasiness about it's inhereted combat abilities.

Moreover, compared with another model, the VB-6 is overwhelmingly has the capability of loading a lot, and a Foldwave Amplification Device and Foldwave Analysis Device have been installed in the bomb-bay [depository, storehouse] of S.M.S.'s Kanaria's craft.

Caption: In the Galaxy Fleet rescue operation, the VB-6 lands on the deck of the remaining [surviving] warship Darufimu [Darfim], and the railgun is fired against the Vajra group.

Caption: Although heavy gerwalk is the form assumed to operate originally on the ground, there were cases where it was used in space, too.

Caption: In the fight at the home planet [star] of the Vajra, it made an emergency landing on the Gunship of the Battle Galaxy even though it's left leg had been destroyed, and then the VB-6 destroyed the bridge (of the Battle Galaxy) with the railgun.

Caption: Heavy GERWALK mode/rear: In the rear section of the fuselage are arranged the ammunition supply of the railgun and the dozer-blade shaped moveable armour.  The latter is contacting the ground when shooting in heavy gerwalk, and it is used as a supporting leg that supresses recoil.

Caption: Heavy GERWALK mode / front: Though the differences can be seen in the details, the form and the airframe structure are follow that of the Destroid Monster.  Accompaning miniturization (of the entire airframe), the barrel of the railgun has shortened more than the base craft.

Caption: Heavy GERWALK mode / side: The reverse jointed structure of the leg, has a moveable toe when walking, and is transformed and composes the main wing when in shuttle.  A high-speed hovering movement with the leg engine is also possible.


Destroid Mode
The destroid form is the mode that corresponds to the battroid form of a VF, and the transformation to human form has drasticly improved the VB-6's close combat abilities.  In addition, the same form has the characteristic point of being able to do hand-to-hand combat by using the newly created power arms.

The craft deployed by S.M.S. have had their avionics and sensors updated to the latest ones, and they surpass the operability of the normal mass-produced VB-6.  Additionally, a bullet resistance greater than the mass-produced craft has been acquired because the armour has been changed to the same as the VF-25's armour pack's energy conversion armour and light-composite armour, and a pinpoint barrier system has also been installed.

Caption:　Destroid mode/Upper Body: When in Destroid, the nose faring moves to the pelvic region.  Moreover, to expand the power arms, the direction of the arms are turned upside down from that in Heavy GERWALK.

Caption: After the left arm is destroyed in the fight at the Varuta's home planet [star], the VB-6 transforms to battroid and continues combat, proving the height of it's durability.

Caption: Destroid mode/the Front: The arms expand and extend more than in Heavy GERWALK, and the entire rail cannon unit moves to the back.  The head unit is exposed when it transforms to destroid.  In addition, in this form as well, all of the armaments can be used.

Caption: Destroid mode/the Back: the railgun unit which is located in the back (in this mode), can also be fired in Destroid mode.  When firing it, it is carrying out posture control by using the leg thrusters.
